Submitting Personal Tax Information & Documents
Our firm has extensive quality control and security processes in place to ensure the safe and efficient handling of your tax information. Please support these processes by following our firm’s best practices for submitting your tax documents.
- Send personal documentation (W2, 1099, etc.) at one time through the online organizer in your portal once everything has been received (By selecting the ‘Send to Preparer’ button)
- Scan and label all documents separately. Please do not upload everything into one pdf file.
- Strong preference for electronic delivery through your portal
- Provide all documents in PDF format
- Please avoid JPEGs and cell phone photos of documents
- Please avoid password protection on files where possible
- If submitting paper documents, please remove staples, paper clips, and Post-It notes for easier scanning into our system
- Please do not submit (unless requested)
- Bank statements
- credit card statements
- check registers
- paper receipts
- Assist us in summarizing all information, such as medical expenses, charitable contributions, etc.
- Please complete the questionnaire in the tax organizer
- Use lists summarizing revenue and expenses by category for Schedule C (self-employed income) and Schedule E (rental properties) if no other accounting system exists.
When Using Your Cell Phone Smartly
The preference is to use your computer whenever possible, but for our cell phone-savvy users, we recommend using apps that can convert pictures of your documents into PDFs. Here are some apps we think you’ll find helpful:
- Genius Scan
- CamScanner
- PDF Converter
Troubleshooting Phone Uploads:
There have been issues uploading PDFs into our system using phones. If you are experiencing this issue, we recommend these additional steps;
- Submit PDFs to your desktop computer
- Upload them from your computer through your secure portal
Submitting documents in as requested allows our team to ensure the safe and efficient handling of your tax information and the end of year tax preparation.
